[batrep] Warhammer 40k - Lunch break Combat Patrol versus Custodes!

Had the opportunity to play a combat patrol at work with my buddy Ryan. It was his first ever time rolling dice against an opponent and it was incredibly satisfying to play this closed format!

Premise

Amidst the invasion of Hive Fleet Leviathan, rumors had spread that a single Nexus spore from Hive Fleet Khepera survived the exterminatus order on the 10th planet of the Camelot system during their own invasion.  With reinforcements already committed to handle HF Leviathan, the Adeptus Custodes sent a combat patrol detachment led by Shield-Captain Tyvar to investigate.  If there were any Tyranids to be found, they were to destroy the xenos quickly before they could open up another front.

Turn 1

Upon arrival of the suspected nest, the Custodes were immediately fired upon by Barbgaunts lying in waiting.  The projectiles bounced harmlessly off of the Custodes' formidable battle plate as they approached the nest from the side of the ruins.    Unfortunately, it slowed their advance to reach the nest such that a trio of Von Ryan Leapers took advantage of the distraction and jumped out of cover to ambushed the group of Sisters of Silence that were trailing the Custodes.   The Custodes fired at the Von Ryan Leapers during their charge, but only single shot landed.  It was not enough to deter the Leapers as they eviscerated the group of Sisters within seconds.

Turn 3

There was no turn 3 as we were 5 minutes late for a meeting.

Turn 2

The rest of the Tyranid swarm reached the nest first.  A group of Termagants moved just ahead of the group to start firing on the Custodes.  One fleshborer barb bit deep into a Warden's armor.  The Custodes then fire on Von Ryan Leapers as they were attacking the other squad of Sisters. Tyvar then lead the way for his group of Custodes to bring their martial might onto the Termagants.  The Custodes cut down the Termagants with ruthless precision before facing down the Psychophage that stood in their way.
