[batrep] Warhammer 40k - Lunch break Combat Patrol versus Custodes!

Had a second opportunity to play a combat patrol with Ryan. He used the lessons from our first game to become even deadlier with the Custodes!

Below is his own narration from the event.

The Premise

Same as last time.   10th planet of the Camelot system.  Rumored Khepera Tyranid swarm sighting.  A shield company of Adeptus Custodes sent to investigated.

The Battle

The Custodian Guards and Wardens entered the ruins first and discovered a trio of Von Ryan Leapers patrolling the perimeter.  Seeing as they were not discovered, they fired at the Leapers.  Bolter fire exploded from both spear and blade, injuring one.  Shield Captain Tyvan took advantage of the confusion and charged in at the surprised Leapers.  He cut down one and wounded the other, all the while dodging the whirlwind of talons that lashed out back at him.

During its invasion, Hive Fleet Khepera had gained a reputation to be deadly not just because of their claws or voracity, but also because of their coordination. Today proved to be no different.  The Von Ryan Leapers fled to cover.  Within a single second, a group of Termagants appeared and fired off wave after wave from their fleshborers.  The suddenly exposed Custodian dashed to cover as borer beetles whizzed by around him.  One managed to get through his armor and start burrowing.

The nine Termagants clattered after the injured Custodian.  Injured but not inabled, Tyvan leveled his shield and blocked the stabbing claws that he could not dodge.  He fell into a Dacatarai stance.  Hundreds of years of experience guided his blade.  Within moments, five Termagants laid dead at his feet.

The Khepera swarm continued to their attack.  A gargantuan Psycophage barreled into the ruins and unleashed a torrent of psychocorrosive ash at the other four Custodians.  The two Custodians with gleaming Praesidium Shields leapt in front of the two Wardens to block the searing ash.

A Tyranid Prime flew in and raked its talons at the beleaguered Custodians.  One of the Wardens noticed the beast flying in from her right side a split second too late as a talon broke through her armor and stabbed into her leg.  However, as the talon landed, she was already moving her Guardian Spear.  She choked the grip of the spear in her right hand and brought it in close as she swung upwards.  The blade cut through both the right talon and wing of the Prime.  She continued the movement of her spear, releasing her left hand and tucking the spear under her right arm.  She pivoted to her left on her left foot as the Prime started to tumble behind her.  As soon as she completed her rotation, she stabbed forward and caught the Prime’s skull with tip of her spear before it tumbled past her.  The Tyranid Prime's neck snapped as the body continued its momentum even though its skull was anchored.  A quick motion discarded the dead Prime off the Warden's blade as she turned back towards the Psychophage's assault.
