[40k] Warhammer Leviathan 10th - Inaugural 10th edition Strike Force game - Dakhma Dynasty vs Adeptus Sororitas

Battle Report: A First-Time Foray into Uncharted Warzones

Today marks a series of 'firsts' for me in the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40k. As we dive headfirst into my inaugural Strike Force game in the newly minted 10th edition, we're not just stopping there. I've also gotten my hands on the Leviathan mission cards, and let me tell you, they've added a whole new dimension to the gameplay in my humble opinion. The battlefield is set in my Necron Tombworld using the Upzone pop-up terrain - my first time venturing into this innovative terrain creation. And if that wasn't enough to whet your appetite, I'm taking the Necron Silver Tide style list out for its maiden voyage after painting so many Necron Warriors!!

The narrative Battle report

Canoness Sister Veridiana's heart burned with a holy wrath as she led her sisters through the catacombs of the vast chamber. The twin pyramids they had navigated were nothing compared to the daunting sight that now lay before them: the Kraken, a monstrous engine of Necron destruction.

Surrounded by legions of their unholy warriors. Her heart swelled with both hate for these ancient xenos and pride for the martyrdom she and her sisters were likely to face. She knew the Sororitas’ fate the moment she glimpsed that monolithic creature.

The Knight, their grandest instrument of divine wrath, opened fire upon the Lychguard leading the Necron forces, only to find the destructive potential of its weaponry dampened against the resilient foes. The chamber soon became a crucible of war, the Necron's baleful green glow illuminating the vast space as their gauss weapons primed to obliterate the Emperor's chosen. With a surge of fervor, the sisters aimed their combined might at the Lychguard, their voices echoing hymns of vengeance. The infiltrating crusades, in a brief stroke of tactical genius, placed teleport homers, hoping against hope that somewhere beyond this cursed chamber, reinforcements might answer their call. The Knight, along with a brave sister squad, stormed into the Lychguard ranks. They managed to decimate them, but the nemesor, an embodiment of ancient malice, remained untouched, gazing mockingly from a distance.

The very ground seemed to shift and warp as the Kraken activated its eternity gate, summoning even more Necron warriors to its side. These reinforcements, fresh and unyielding, cut through the sisters' defenses. The penitent engine roared defiantly, spewing divine flames upon them, but even this momentary triumph was short-lived. The Necrons responded with the Protocol of the Vengeful Stars, a devastating stratagem that wreaked havoc upon the Sororitas ranks.

Just as swiftly, plasmancers and their newfound allies targeted the Knight, weakening its formidable defenses before the Kraken's particle whip dealt the final, crippling blow.

The Kraken, its monstrous form dominating the battlefield, then turned its attention to Saint Celestine. With a malicious gleam, it used its eternity gate once more, and in a blink, the Living Saint was banished from the fray.

Sister Veridiana, her heart heavy with grief but her spirit unyielding, looked upon her scattered forces. They were surrounded, outmatched, and facing oblivion. Yet, in her heart, a flame of pride continued to burn – for they had faced this terror head-on, unflinching in their devotion to the Emperor. In their noble sacrifice, the tales of their martyrdom would live on. Even in defeat, the Adepta Sororitas remained unbowed.

Conclusion:

After a thorough playthrough, it's evident that the 10th edition of the game offers an engaging and entertaining experience. The new missions have been crafted meticulously, making every match intensely enjoyable. While there were some peculiarities during the charge phase that caught our attention, they were minor hiccups in an otherwise seamless gameplay. A notable mention goes out to Chris, who proved to be not only a formidable opponent but also an exemplary sportsman. His Adepta Sororitas faced the overwhelming might of the Necron Silver Tide with commendable valor and strategy. Overall, the game continues to impress with its dynamic rules and captivating narratives.
