[batrep] Warhammer 40k 9th Arks of Omen – Space Wolves vs Chaos Daemons - 5th 40k BC league game 3

In this gripping battle report, I recount the intense conflict between my Space Wolves and the fearsome Chaos demons of Khorne, led by the skilled Thane. From the very beginning, it was clear that this would be no ordinary engagement, as both armies surged forward with a ferocity that could only result in bloodshed.

Recognizing the overwhelming power of their demonic foes, the Space Wolves were forced to adopt a highly defensive stance, utilizing their tactical prowess and cunning to outmaneuver and outwit the Khornate hordes. It was a brutal and unforgiving battle, with both sides locked in a desperate struggle for supremacy.

Deployment

The ancient ruins of the Imperial city lay desolate and silent, the only sound the distant howl of the warp winds. The Space Wolves descended from their drop pods, their senses alert for any sign of danger.

As they began to investigate the ruins, they came upon a series of shrines dedicated to the Blood God, Khorne. Suddenly, without warning, the Space Wolves were ambushed by a horde of Khorne daemons, pouring out of the warp like a tidal wave.

Turn 1

The first wave of daemons was led by a massive Bloodthirster, its skin the color of fresh blood. It was accompanied by a host of Bloodletters and two Skull Cannons, raining down deadly fire upon the Space Wolves. But the Space Wolves were ready.

They formed a tight defensive line, using the covering fire of their missile launchers and lascannons to destroy the Skull Cannons before they could do any more damage.

As the battle raged on, the Space Wolves were assaulted by a pack of frenzied Bloodcrushers, charging across the field with lightning speed.

But the Space Wolves held firm, their armor and freezing powers protecting them from the frenzied beasts.

Turn 2

In the second wave, two more Bloodthirsters materialized, their pale blue skin a stark contrast to the red of the first.

They were accompanied by a host of Bloodletters, but the Space Wolves were ready for them.
The Long Fangs fired their weapons with deadly accuracy, while the Whirlwind tank suppressed the enemy forces, giving the Space Wolves the opportunity to retaliate.

The Thunderwolf Cavalry was a sight to behold as they charged across the field, their massive wolves thundering beneath them. They crashed into the lines of daemons, their weapons flashing as they cut down Bloodletters left and right. But the daemons were relentless, their numbers seeming to multiply with each passing moment. The fight became a grueling slog, the Space Wolves locked in a deadly dance with their otherworldly foes.

Turn 3

The fight was brutal and intense, with both sides taking heavy casualties. The Space Wolves were bolstered by the arrival of Terminators, who teleported in to provide support. But the daemons were relentless, their whips and axes cleaving through the Space Wolves with terrifying speed.

Despite their losses, the Space Wolves fought on. In the fourth wave, the red Bloodthirster, the leader of the daemonic horde, charged into the fray. Its massive frame dominated the battlefield, but the Space Wolves stood firm, their armor and weapons barely holding back the unstoppable daemon. More Bloodletters poured in from the warp, and the battle intensified all across the field.

Guthorm, the mighty Wolf Lord, roared as he fired his jetpack and launched himself towards the blue-skinned Bloodthirster at the western flank. He landed with a thunderous crash, his Shield Eternal raised high in defiance of the daemon's wicked blades. But as he stood alone, facing the monstrous beast, the supporting forces failed to make their charge, leaving him to fight the demon alone.

The battle was fierce, each blow ringing out like thunder across the battlefield. Guthorm fought with all his might, his muscles straining and his teeth bared in a fierce snarl. But even with the power of the Shield Eternal at his side, he was no match for the Bloodthirster's otherworldly strength. The beast overcame him, its cleaving blows tearing through his armor and cutting him down before his pack.

The battlefield shook as the massive red Bloodthirster roared, its eyes locked onto Ornolf, the brave Space Wolf wielding the legendary Armor of Russ. Ornolf charged forward, his weapon raised high, the power of the armor slowing the beast just enough for him to engage it in combat.

With a fierce snarl, Ornolf fought alongside his Blood Claw pack, their weapons flashing in the sun as they struck the beast with all their might. But their victory was short-lived, as a second demon, with pale blue skin, emerged onto the battlefield.

Despite gravely wounding both demons with his mighty strikes, Ornolf and his pack were soon overcome by the Bloodthirsters' otherworldly strength. They fought with all their might, but their fate was sealed, and they were ultimately butchered by the demons. Though they had fallen in battle, their sacrifice would be remembered for generations to come as a testament to the valor and bravery of the Space Wolves.

Turn 4

A lone Space Wolf scout loaded his heavy bolter with hellfire shells, his eyes locked onto the massive red Bloodthirster. With a steady hand and a determined heart, he aimed and fired, the powerful rounds tearing through the demon's flesh. The Bloodthirster roared in agony, its massive form collapsing onto the ground, defeated by the precise and deadly shot of the Space Wolf scout at last.

The Space Wolves fought with grim determination, their every move calculated and precise, a Whirlwind heavy support tank charged in to trample Bloodletters, and even Long Fangs abandoned their heavy weapons and drew their knives, joining the fray alongside the Bloodclaws and Scouts.
Together, they managed to bring down every daemon, one by one, until only the last blue-skinned Bloodthirster remained.

The final moments of the battle were filled with desperation and fury, as the last Bloodthirster fought with all its might to bring the Space Wolves down with it. But the warriors of Fenris were unyielding, their resolve unbroken even in the face of such an overwhelming foe.

The cost of victory was steep, and the Space Wolves mourned the loss of scores of veterans who could never be replaced. The fallen warriors would be remembered as heroes, their sacrifice a testament to the unbreakable spirit of the Space Wolves in the face of the most dire of circumstances.

With a final barrage of heavy weapons fire, the Bloodthirster was banished back to the warp from whence it came, its howls of rage echoing across the ruined city.

Outcome

The battlefield was silent, save for the sound of the Space Wolves' ragged breathing and the distant howl of the warp winds. It was a hard-fought victory, but the Space Wolves had prevailed against the forces of Chaos, their honor and loyalty intact.

It was a long and grueling battle, but the Space Wolves emerged victorious with 83 points versus the 52 for the Chaos Daemons, but it was a close game as the pivotal moments on turns 2 and 3 could have easily tipped the scales and swung the battle in the favor of the Daemons.

* - we forgot to tally up No Prisoners' secondary, so the final score was actually 83x52
