For my second game of Legions Imperialis, I had the privilege of playing a practice match with a friend who owns an incredible collection of terrain. He went above and beyond, setting up an awe-inspiring battlefield in advance. Two-thirds of the board was a sprawling Civitas Imperialis, its towering gothic structures forming the heart of an Imperial city, while the remaining third depicted the outskirts of a Mechanicum Fabricator Sector — a stark contrast with its servitor vats, landing pads, and industrial sprawl. The sight alone was enough to make any commander eager for battle.
My opponent fielded a veteran force of World Eaters, boasting more than a dozen Dreadnoughts, brutal infantry, and the looming might of a Dire Wolf Titan. Against this wall of unrelenting aggression, I led a mechanized Space Wolves force, with infantry supported by a formation of tanks, ready to push deep into the city’s war-torn streets.
The battle unfolded in the central structures, where the World Eaters forced me out of key positions using their Deathstorm Drop Pods, raining fire and destruction upon my forces. Their unyielding assault saw them claim many of the towering structures in the center, grinding my forces down in brutal close-quarters combat. The city became a slaughterhouse, fitting for the Butcher’s Nails.
