[batrep] Warhammer 40k - BC League Season 2 - Battles Recap

I had placed in the bottom of the last BC 40k league and now I came back for more! Armed with some better knowledge of the game, could I score a victory or two?

Round 1 - Necrons mirror match

This was a fun game where moth Necron forces brought their own C'tan Shard of the Nightbringer, and the way their rules work, you can expect that the first one to get a charge off will just murderize the other straight away.

This was the moment of truth, both Nightbringer shards converged in the center of the table and I had the charge, only a 6'' charge but the thing failed on its charge roll. Command Re-roll and another fail! So much for the nightbringer, not it was basically guaranteed that my opponent would get the kill there.

It was a hard fought battle, but the advantage of having the C'tan shard floating from target to target capitalized in my opponent's advantage and they secured the victory.

Round 2 - Death Guard

Second game was against an old foe – played Death Guard many times before – and I was ready for the hordes and confident of my plan.

The horde was upon us, with Mortarion himself leading the charge alongside Typhus

The Canoptek Tentilla (counts-as Doomsday Ark) rained shots from the back and served as a sturdy objective holder later on in the game

The canoptek monstrosity moves ever forward, the versatility on offense and defense is really great for this unit

As Mortarion glides in a cloud of pestilence on the center of the battlefield, the Nightbringer conjures up a cosmic meteor and follows it with slices of his scythe, making short work and banishing the demon primarch back to the warp

This battle was very close, but towards the end of the game I had to leave short and we talked the last few rounds over, ending up on a victory for the Death Guard.

Round 3 - Adepta Sororitas

The Nightbringer managed to open up and kill several sisters of battle before being felled by a lucky surviving unit of Repentia

After a close match, the sisters managed to strike a solid victory over my Necrons.

Round 4 - Admech

I unfortunately couldn't make my calendar work and had to forfeit this game.

Round 5 - Blood Angels

The Necrons got a great update near the end in the form of the balance Datasheet and it inspired me to put my Canoptek Kraken together at last!

The Kraken (counts-as Monolith) flanked the Necron formation with its massive bulk

Ni’thek, the dark regent (counts-as Anarkyr) led the Dahkma Lychguard legions

Dante and his angels of death opposed them

The destroyers flank the Kraken and unleash deadly gauss fire, killing and weakening some of the enemy units

The Death Company was dispatched with a load of Thunderhammers (ignore the chainswords, those were TH) and managed to decimate the Monolith on the first turn, unfortunately

The Lychguard charge forward and kill a host of Blood Angels, but are decimated by the Sanguinary Guard in the counter-charge

On the far flank of the battlefield, the Dahkma Shieldmaidens keep the enemy at bay

After the Lychguard are destroyed, the Necron characters are exposed to charges from the jump-pack equipped marines

Dante himself had issued a challenge to Ni’thek, and managed to fell the target in combat

The following barrage from the destroyers made short work of Dante, while Ni’thek reanimated and counter-charged his sanguinary guard

With the far flank dominated, the remaining Sanguinary Guard got in behind the Shieldmaidens and secured a solid Blood Angels visit

Conclusion

I got much more consistent close games this time around, but playing Necrons is an uphill battle and I didn't have the time or mindset to really improve my game plans.

Maybe I can improve on the next league?
