After a long time of simply not playing due to Covid I had the opportunity to get my first game of 9th edition (wow that was a long time coming) playing against no other than PlayOn Tak on the PlayOn studio!
I have been a Patreon of the studio for a while and they make great content, you should too!
The logo greeted me after climbing the stairs to the studio, I already knew this was going to be a great game!
Tak had already set the table according to the BC 40k League guidelines as we where both practicing for the upcoming games. (well to be fair and honest he was basically teaching me the new edition)
The Space Wolves were training and refitting in the region when they received a garbled signal via the long-range vox. With their Iron Priests busy repairing their small recon fleet they replied with their best "tl;dr" and that triggered an aggressive response from the Mechanicum.
The Wolves knew that language well.

Primary Mission: Secure Objectives
Secondary Mission: A Mighty Saga
Secondary Mission: Assassination
Secondary Mission: Engage on All Fronts
The Space Wolf forces consisted of a lot of Bloodclaws in Rhinos and a Drop Pod, with a Wulfen Pack for support and the usual Wolf Lord, Wolf Priest and Wolf Guard Battle Leader trio leading the charge.
The Mechanicus forces consisted of a bulk of Cataphron at the back, some melee striders to flank and skitarii on a transport, all supported by one of their archeotech flyers with all the guns!

Primary Mission: Secure Objectives
Secondary Mission: Eradication of Flesh
Secondary Mission: ---redacted---
Secondary Mission: Engage on All Fronts
These Fenrisian Wolves held the point way longer than they should have, but were eventually cleared off the point at turn 3 or 4.
I have to say that my Blood Claws were fierce in withstanding incoming fire and when dishing out the Allfather's wrath in close combat. Their Wolf Guard leaders with their Thunderhammers felled many skitarii and machines that fateful day.
The Outflanking Wulfen are able to enter the battlefield on their own deployment zone.
Those infiltrators will soon wish they hadn't advanced that far...
The infiltrators had forced the drop pod full of wolves to drop in a sub-optimal position in the middle of the battlefield.
The warriors of Fenris challenge the Skitarii to come out to play.
The strider is happy to ignore the insults and ready for the incoming charge, but the Fenrisian warriors fail their charge roll and the re-roll and are left in the open for retaliation!
The Wulfen are able to cover much distance by dispatching the Infiltrators, but are left out in the open to receive the retribution from their foe.
Across on the northen side of the battlefield, the bloodclaw charge leaves the admech transport with a single wound left, but fail to expose the troops within.
The admech forces that had advanced far fall back to attempt to counter the ferocity of the Bloodclaws, but the transport is unable to move with the enemy surrounding it and this makes the counter-offensive a gambit on the north flank.
The South Flank, however sees most of the exposed bloodclaws felled, the Wulfen die to overwatch fire as they attempt to close the distance to the cataphron destroyers in the back and the Admech start to trail lascannon shots at the space wolves heroes, who defiantly deflect most of the shots on their storm shields.
Could they withstand the tide of shots and break the neck of the Mechanicum?
The North flank starts to be marred by the blood and oil of the Skitarii, but while these machine-servants are sacrificed, the whole space wolves deployment zone is contested by the Mechanicum.
Relentless in their assault, they mercilessly take down wolf after wolf.
The pilot scans the battlefield from above, unchallenged by the melee-focused forces of the Space Wolves.
Seeking his Saga, the Wolf Lord was finally brought down by the combined shooting of the Cataphrons. His brother Wolf Guard Battle Leader picks-up his hammer and fells the Dominus, while the Wolf Priest dispatches the Techpriest while they fight for critical contested grounds.
The fate of the Wolf Guard Battle Leader is known only to the Mechanicus, in secret they recovered his large black shield, a relic of the machine-god that holds the secrets to some forgotten technology.
Later, at the vaults of his Ark Mechanicus battleship, the arch-dominus reflects about the retaliation they will suffer from the enraged Wolves of Fenris.
+++ technology recovered this day = future gains for the machine god > immediate loss of materiel/personnel ++++
++++ losses acceptable ++++
His Ark warps away as the first battle barges commence bombarding the distraction fleet left behind in the system.
Adeptus Mechanicus Victory!
