As mentioned before I went to visit the Warhounds wargaming club to play against some of the best 40k players in Brazil. I wasn't disappointed to fight an old friend, SNK, who owns an impressive Death Guard army amongst his large collection.
Below are some pictures and a summarized report of a thematic battle of Tzeench vs Nurgle!
The armies
I have so much fun playing my 1500pts Cohort of living spells with its horde of Pink Horrors and some big, nasty spellcasters. Since my opponent had nothing to threaten my backfield I deployed in a simple line with my large demons right behind it.
My opponent brought a list with three Plagueburst Crawlers ready to lay down support fire from long range. He deployed the trio on the far left flank in a position to hold and contest one of the six spellbooks that my Lord of Change, Abutre, had to hunt down and secure on this battlefield.
Putrid smoke raised from the single little Myphitic Blight-hauler. The dense smog gave great cover to the shambling mass of Pox Walkers and the glow of the plague marine plasma weapons projected deep shadows from behind the lines.
First turns
Tzeench snatched away his spellbooks from the hands of the Dragon Knights by pulling them back into the warp with a spell. Little did he know, Nurgle had been watching and prepared a prank on his brother, recreating the same battlefield on his garden that acted as a conduit for the spellbooks. The result was that instead of staying under Tzeench's control the books where ripe for the taking and his loyal Death Guard servants where ready and waiting on this pocket version of realspace.
A shambling mass of Poxwalkers steadily advanced towards the midfield and the closest spellbooks. The mindless creatures knew nothing of what they could do with such power in their possession, but that would make Nurgle happy for them to put their touch on the books, and that is what they intended to do!
Protected by the fog from the Myphitic Blight-hauler and augmented by Typhus's Miasma of Pestilence and Putrescent Vitality, the poxwalkers where a hard target to remove. -1 to hit, T5 and +1 to cover save was enough to mitigate most of the damage from the 50+ pink horrors, even under the influence of Tzeench's best spells.
The counter-fire from the Deathguard forces was devastating on the Pink horrors, but their incessant splitting and reshaping kept the horde from thinning. Seeing the threat of the Death Guard tanks, both the Demon Prince Kitkazir and Abutre flew towards them to crush their metal frames in close combat. Luck was in Nurgle's favor, however, as both demons rolled double ones for their charge rolls on their first engagement!
Typhus himself bellowed loudly at the sight of a fresh set of 30 pink horrors with Icons and Instruments manifesting on the battlefield. With a large swing of his Scythe he pushed the Poxwalkers as a tide with every enemy killed fueling a new Poxwalker to be shaped for in this real of the warp and in Nurgle's Garden even deamon blood could fuel the growing horde.
Later turns
The demons finally make contact with the heavy Tanks, but their damage output is diminished by the invulnerable saves and disgustingly resilient rolls of the Death Guard vehicles. The Lord of Change smites and hacks away at the tanks, followed by streams of pink mutating warp flames from the exalted flamers behind them.
The two hordes clashed at the center of the table, with the stratagem to raise more pox walkers and the buffs they received from Typhus and his sorcerer however, the ragged tide began to envelop and overtake the maelstrom of colors that configured the demon formation.
Even then the larger 30-man strong pink horror unit was kept free of the melee but without the spells and presence of the larger daemons their efficiency dropped a lot.
The 2+ save of the Plague Marines under the thick fog released by the Blight-hauler, saving a great many successful wounds and severely diminishing the Pink Horrors firepower.
Little by little the Plague Marines came clambering down the chaos shrine towards another magical tome, killing the few Brimstone Horrors that guarded it.
The Demon Prince and Lord of Change took care and dispatched most of the enemy armor, but with the initial failed charges they had no time to double back and support their infantry.
Outcome
Nurgle must have been very pleased with the seeding on his lands. Even knowing full well that he could not keep the living spells under his domain it was enough to watch his brother nemesis fighting for it with such abandon.
The Deathguard secured a solid points lead due to the lockdown of the middle of the table with a host of Poxwalkers. The game ended at 12x9 for the Deathguard as Tzeench and Nurgle threw even more demons in the mix in a crescendo of broiling warp to fuel more energy on the great game!
